Hiking at High Braes
Enjoy a chance to take a relaxing walk, or if you prefer, a vigorous hike.
There is nearly three miles of trials on the Braes property. The trails range
from one lane dirt roads, which are easier to walk, to marked hiking trails
that work their way through 350 acres of wooded land.
Trail Map of High Braes Refuge
The River Trails are mostly flat and work their way along the banks for the
East Branch of the Salmon River. Come across the road and take the steep
walk up past "Fisherman Watch" to the south side of the Manor House.
Follow the red trail through the woods to the Fire Place Trail. At the end you
will find the original fireplace of "Wills Cabin," the first get-away spot where
John Davidson along with family and friends would spend many days for
hunting and fishing recreation.
Continue to follow the red trail out along the ridge overlooking Stony Brook
all the way to the lower falls. Take a break and enjoy the view and the
solitude of this area a mile back into the property.
There are connecting trails that join the red trial to the road and to the Camp
Ground which is in the center of the property.
If staying on pavement is your idea of a good walk, the roads around the
Braes are usually quiet with very little traffic.
There is no cost for use of the hiking trails at the Braes but you must make
a reservation. Please contact our office at (315) 599-7362.
